Lamaiya Lancaster, Adjunct Dance Faculty
College of Lake County, Illinois, USA
This non-gender specific partnering workshop is offered for individuals interested in weight sharing, partnering, or a new and engaging way to practice. Dancers will develop awareness of oneself in relation to others and will progress to the study of weight sharing, momentum driven lifting, and contact in the air. Dancers will also learn partnering phrases that incorporate organic individual movement with the learned partnering fundamentals. As the dancers move and learn, together, through the course of the class they will build trust and community, which are two objectives of artistic exchange and ties the physical practice of the class to the concepts incorporated in community building.
Lamaiya Lancaster spent her early years training at the San Diego School for Creative and Performing Arts and Fort Wayne Dance Collective. She earned a BA in Cultural Studies from Columbia College, Chicago, a MA in Adult/Community Education with a concentration in dance and community engagement and is a graduate candidate in Executive Development for Public Service at Ball State University. In addition, she is adjunct dance faculty at the College of Lake County and Co-Founder/Choreographer of L-Theory Collective where her dedication to inclusion through community engagement in the art of dance is realized.
