Breath Flow – Rolling and Breathing as a Modern Dance Staple

This class will explore the impact of rolling and breath development as it transcends from the floor into multiple levels of contemporary movement.
Jilissa Cotten is a Native of Corpus Christi and a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a Minor in Russian. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in Choreography and Performance from Sam Houston State University. Ms. Cotten is currently the Associate Professor and Director of the Dance at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. She has produced original choreography both nationally and internationally, most recently for the Tanzsommer! International Dance Festival in Austria and for the Universidad de las Americas in Puebla, Mexico. She is a guest teacher for Danza Universitaria, the resident professional dance company at the University of Costa Rica and one of the resident choreographers for Corpus Christi’s Harbor Playhouse. She also is the producer for the Bailando International Dance Festival which is in its 20th year, offering opportunities for emerging choreographers to showcase their work at a three day festival, along with master classes in a variety of dance styles. In her free time, Ms. Cotten enjoys spending time with her husband, three dogs and hanging on the beach.
