Artist’s Statement: Mary Fitzgerald and Eileen Standley are artists with lifelong careers devoted to dancemaking, performing, interdisciplinary collaboration, and education. We continue to work in dance and related fields together and with our individual work. What we share is a deep interest in what it is to age with dignity and continue with our work in the youth-centered field of dance as well as a wish to contribute to the evolution and legacy of dance. We continue to create multiple iterations of this concept in many disciplines (including performance in both traditional and non-traditional spaces, screen dance, sculpture, animation, interactive installations, sound, and design). The film Amplified II reflects one of our ongoing projects performed and filmed in a protected Arizona desert landscape.

Choreographers/Dancers Mary Fitzgerald and Eileen Standley have been working for many years with dance, movement, and performance in collaboration with a variety of disciplines. Together we bring over 30 years of art-making experience to what we create and what we explore together. Currently, Mary and Eileen are invested in a long-range dance and aging performance project. We are examining what it means – and what it takes – to age with dignity and purpose in the youth-centered culture of American contemporary dance.  As artists/educators, we are based in Phoenix, Arizona. We both create and perform work nationally and internationally.
