Current WDA-A Administrative Leaders and Guest Speakers welcomed participants during this Opening Ceremony in the Faris Theatre at the Dance Centre to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of WDA-Americas and the opening of the 2013 Conference & Festival! Following the Opening Ceremony a catered reception occured at the Holiday Inn’s Columbus Room!
Each evening from Tuesday through Saturday, a concert was showcased starting at 6:00pm with selected works from these wonderful performers and presenters.
Instructors from around the world offered classes on a diverse array of topics to participants. This was an exciting opportunity to learn and explore a variety of forms and techniques. All classes were 1 hour and 20 minutes in length. Classes were held throughout the day from Tuesday – Saturday.
Panels were groups of self organized presenters who share a common interest and wish to present/discuss research and perspectives to open dialogue with participants. All panels were 1 hour and 20 minutes in length. Panels were distributed throughout the week from Tuesday – Saturday.
Scholarly Research Presentations were grouped together in pairs or trios of complimentary topic to generate dialogue and discourse between presenters and the audience during the question and answer phase after the presentations. Each presenter had 15-20 minutes to share their research. Each grouping was 1 hour and 20 minutes total time. Scholarly Research Presentations were held throughout the day from Tuesday – Saturday.
Participants at the Conference & Festival had the unique opportunity to work with one of these choreographers selected by the Conference Committee during a week long rehearsal series culminating in a performance during the Closing Ceremony on Sunday, August 4th.
The World Dance Alliance – Americas and Dance Critics Association were delighted to announce that they integrating their conference programming for the 2013 conference in Vancouver, BC. All participants that registered for either of the conferences were able to attend all the co-conferences activities at no extra cost!
